Anniversary / Office Party...

Our 4-Year Anniversary (December 21st, 2006)...

Okay, how awesome is it that Nick and I got paid to attend our company Christmas Party ON our 4-Year Anniversary?!? We were only required to work three hours - from 3pm to 6pm - then we got to go downtown and have free dinner (and free parking) while we got paid for the rest of our "normal" shift (5 hours of pay during the party). Not only did we not have to ask for our anniversary off to go do something...we got paid to enjoy ourselves downtown. WILD!

Hair Evolution...

December 8th, 2006:
Another Phase in My Fiance's Hair Evolution...

Ever since my fiance asked me to cut his hair short, earlier this year, he's floated back-and-forth between wanting to grow his hair long again, and wanting to keep it short. Well, Friday night he'd decided he wanted to cut his hair short again...it had gotten just long enough to be unruly, and he was tired of having to deal with it (ie; gel it down or let it fluff outta control). So, moments before we were supposed to meet our friend (and my former coworker) Wayne for his 'going away' get-together (Wayne's moving to Las Vegas), my fiance hands me the clippers, takes off his shirt, and asks if I think I can give him a mohawk. Now I'd never given anyone a mohawk before and I was very nervous that I was going to mess it all up. Luckily, for me, he's got a very distinct hair-line - and I used that as a guide for the width and straightness of his first mohawk. Within 2 minutes his new hair style was complete...we brushed him off, he put his shirt back on, and we headed to the pub to meet Wayne.

Turn On & Tune Out...

With half of my first week outta the way, I'm really getting a feel for this job. My first day there I was musicless. I was forced to listen to random discussions that went on all around me. It was distracting and somewhat annoying. By the second day, though, I had headphones and CD's and was ready to turn on & tune out. Man, let me tell you it made a world of difference. Now I don't have to listen to my coworkers ramble on about everything and nothing.

I burned two CD's for work. One is primarily classic rock, while the other is funk. Keeps things interesting - and at least I know I'm not necessarily listening to the same thing all the emo kids (on my shift) are jammin' out to. Hee-hee! I was wrong to refer to my new job as monotonous...well, sure, I just sit there and do the same thing over and over again...but with my music I can make it my own world/space and I really think I'm gonna dig kickin' back and working here for as long as it takes for me to prepare for my return to the hospitality industry.

Monotony Here I Come...

I just got word, this morning, that I've been hired on by the same company my fiance and his brother work for. It's a laid back job with no guests and no telephones to answer...this job is just me and a computer and tons of pages from books to be proof-read.

After struggling with two improperly managed hotels, and the consequences of being caught in the middle, I figured it was time to step away from the hospitality industry for a little while and focus on bettering myself. This job will afford me plenty of time to spend with my fiance (and visit family on holidays) as well as give me the opportunity to begin onling courses in Hotel Management. By the time I return to the hospitality industry I'll be better than ever and more qualified for the kinda positions I want.

Spring Cleaning in Autumn...

I suppose it's because New Years is just around the corner, but I felt this sudden urge to clean out my blogs and start fresh. I'd neglected most of my blogs for so long there really wasn't any point in trying to back-track and update them. Soon I'll have more time to balance my work and non-work life...and with that will come more time for my online stuffs as well as things "outside the box". I should (though I know I've said this before) be posting more often from here on out. My apologies to my faithful readers who've patiently checked my blogs for any signs of life recently.
